Republic of Korea, is a small country located on the eastern edges of Asia (between China and Japan), Korea consists with a population of roughly 51 million people. South Korea has been evolving economically via technology (IT), and also auto-mobiles. As well as the 'Korean wave' by dramas, movies and K-POP internationally. Korea has four distinct seasons; Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. A cold Winter with snow, warm Spring with the event of cherry blossoms, hot and humid Summer, and slightly chilly but still relevantly warm breezed Autumn.

South Korea has a hot and humid summer, which sometimes can be unbearable even for residents. regardless of the hot sweaty environment what's so good about it?
Yes, it is the beach and pool parks and the festivals that still makes it an enjoyable holiday for people in Korea and for foreigners!
There are many festivals for all ages from young till old, some include Haeundae Sand Festival, Boryeong Mud Festival, Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival.

Haeundae Sand Festival

Located in Busan, Haeundae Beach is one of the biggest holiday spots for mid summer vacations. Popular for health and beauty; hot sand bathing (being buried from head to toe under the hot sand), competitions for volleyball, Korean sand wrestling (Ssirum), sand sledding events, and much more!

As well as the main event sand sculptures from professional sculptors to show their artwork under a theme decided before summer starts.
Including this years upcoming summer in June, it will be Haeundae's 10th anniversary of The Sand festival. Even at night you can enjoy the leisure of watching the firework and night performances, as also Haeundae's speciality seafood. With streets of restaurants filled with fresh seafood and great environments for a nice dinner with no pressure on pricing, you can enjoy a lovely dinner with your loved ones at Haeundae beach front!

Therefore, a lot of tourist come to enjoy the "good for skin" mud in a fun and enjoyable way.
The mud festival started in 1998 and has become one the biggest events in summer for Korea. Main events are made to make everyone come in and participate in getting muddy. such as, mud wrestling, sliding, games and competitions. Enjoy the night life with fireworks and a free economically friendly face mask!

SPRING

Korea's spring is famous for the sightseeing of the spring flowers, similar to Japan's Cherry Blossoms. The blossom of the flowers only goes for roughly a month during Spring, and therefore lots and lots of people will be at several festivals to see the unforgettable flowers all around Korea.

Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival

The most famous annual festival in Spring time for Korea would be at the town of Jinhae, located on the Southern coastline of Korea, consists of spectacular mountains in view as well as the rows of trees of the cherry blossoms, originally called Beotkkot namu. As well as the pretty flower seeing, the reason why Jinhae is famous is because you can have a look at the history of Korea in the 16th century war, where people can visit the museums and physically see a real life replica of the turtle ship used for war.

AUTUMN

Another exquisite site of Korea is Autumn where colours of red, brown and yellow all unite to make the season of Autumn. During the season of Autumn Koreans and tourists can enjoy the chilly yet warm weather of pre-winter and post summer. The biggest holiday event of Korean Autumn would be the harvesting season and Korean thanks giving day Chu-seok.

Chu Seok

One of Korea's biggest public holiday Chu Seok is the time when Korean's go back to their home town, away from the busy life they live, to spend time with family and friends. It is the time of great handmade food and games fitted for the family to come together for rest and laughter.
Families come together to prepare their ancestral memorial ceremony to thank for another year of good harvesting, by filling a table with newly harvested food for their ancestors.
Songpyeon is a special traditional rice cake used on the table of filling and usually made by everyone on Chu seok to remind them of the importance of family.

As having experience with Korean culture myself, I highly recommend for you to try this delicate dish. Its good as a small dessert or snack for when you feel like something sweet but filling! YUM!!!

On Chu seok not only is family an important matter, but also for friends and people around you. Koreans will send gift packs to each other in the meaning of thankfulness and appreciation. these gifts can comprise of foods to just normal household equipments that are convenient for one another.

Cold winter in Korea may be slightly hard to move around outdoors, but it doesn't stop people from having a nice holiday and tour around Korea and seeing the most out of it!
Korea's winter has lots of snow therefore there are other outside activities that can be done.  Such as snow boarding, skiing  outdoor ice skating, fishing and of course Christmas.

Outdoor activities in the snow

Why not visit one the the biggest outdoor theme park; Everland?  It has a huge snow sledding park within, so if your'e bored of just going on rides you can always visit to have look or even experience snow sledding with other people. With extra convenience facilities built for people who don't want to have a try, there is heated waiting areas and refreshment stores located near the end of the trek.

Snow sledding too childish for you? then why not visit the ski resorts, not so far from Seoul!
Korea having high numbers of mountains skiing and snow boarding is one of the most enjoyed outdoor activities during the winter season. With lessons for beginners and levels of height for people who like to challenge their skills. During the night, bars and restaurants are open for leisure time after a nice adventure of skiing and snow boarding.

Ice fishing is steadily increasing for people on their holiday in Korea. Odae River is used for the competition of Cherry Salmon fishing by the town of Pyeong Chang to get families to come out enjoy a bit of winter fishing on ice! Alos the fun of being able to fish and take it to specific restaurants that will cook the fish you caught!!

Ice skating outdoors and indoors has always been a huge success for Koreans. And now especially after the winter Olympics, more people have found interest in it. Korea has a few big ice rinks, and is always busy with people who come with families, friends and lovers. Outdoor ice rinks have beautiful views and decorations to add more joy for people visiting.
