Sydney
post by ChaseSydney is known as the Harbor City. It is the largest, oldest and most cosmopolitan city in Australia with an enviable reputation as one of the world's most beautiful and livable cities. Brimming with history, nature, culture, art, fashion, cuisine, design, it is set next to miles of ocean coastline and sandy surf beaches. Recent immigration trends have led to the cities reputation as one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse cities in Australia and the world. The city is also home to the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbor Bridge, two of the most iconic structures on the planet.
The busy centre of government and finance, but also home to many famous attractions, fine restaurants, and shopping.
Festivals
Vivid Sydney
Vivid Sydney is a unique annual event of light, music and ideas, featuring an outdoor 'gallery' of extraordinary lighting sculptures, a cutting-edge contemporary music program, some of the world's most important creative industry forums and, of course, the spectacular illumination of the Sydney Opera House sails.
It positions Sydney as the creative hub of Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, and delivers both innovative live entertainment and creative inspiration on a grand scale.
The creative people of the world - from industry professionals to aspiring practitioners to the merely curious - are invited to Sydney annually to watch the city transform into a breathtaking canvas of creative expression. For 18 days, creative practitioners, corporate professionals, families and people of all generations take advantage of Sydney's mild winter weather and engage with a truly spectacular event.
ANZAC day
ANZAC day is one of Australia's most important national commemorative occasions. it marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.
With the coming of the Second World War, ANZAC day also served to commemorate the lives of Australians who died in that war. In subsequent years the meaning of the day has been further broadened to include Australians killed in all the military operations in which Australia has been involved.
The Sydney ANZAC day March gives participating veterans and the general public an opportunity to honor those who served in the defense of Australia, especially those who paid the supreme sacrifice.
Sydney Mardi Gras
Sydney Mardi Gras is one of Australia's biggest tourist draw cards, with the parade and dance party attracting many international and domestic tourists. It is New South Wales' second-largest annual event in terms of economic impact, generating an annual income of about A$30 million for the state.
The event grew from gay rights marches held annually since 1978, when New South Wales State Police had contentiously arrested numerous participants. The Mardi Gras Parade maintains a political flavor; with many marching groups and floats promoting LGBTQI rights issues or themes. Reflecting changes since the first Sydney Mardi Gras, participants in the Mardi Gras Parade now include groups of uniformed Australian Defense Force personnel, Police officers from New South Wales State Police, as well as interstate/federal police officers, firefighters and other emergency services personnel from the Australian LGBTI community. Marriage equality was a dominant theme in the 2011 Sydney Mardi Gras Parade with at least 15 floats lobbying for same-sex marriage.
