travelling to Italy

Don't you want to explore the perplexity of Italy? All you have to do is click and come and have an adventure with me exploring this beautiful country's wonders!

Italy

Hey guys, It's Yirang again. With a new destination I'm planning to go before I die! And I'm pretty sure you guys reading my blog, would kill to go as well, or you may have already been and wish you could go again!

Here's just a little background info about Italy to start off, before you and I go on our little adventure to Italy!

Map of Italy
http://www.infoplease.com/atlas/country/italy.html
Italy as you guys probably know is described as looking similar to a 'boot'.To its north, Italy is surrounded by Countries; Switzerland, France and Austria (I'd like to go to those Countries some day too!). The East, South and West The Tyrrhenian Sea, Adriatic Sea, and The Ionian Sea envelope the Country.

Did you know that Italy has the most number of proven artifacts, artworks and monuments (UNESCO World Heritage Sites)? Cool isn't it? The more I talk about these I know my wish to go to Italy will grow more and more!

Italy is also pretty well known for their delicious food, aromas, language, fashion, and motor vehicles. As well as their beautiful scenery of the Alps in the mountains, and coastlines! Some people even name Italy as Bel Paese (the beautiful Country).

Here's my Top three destinations I'd like to visit in the most Beautiful country in the world!

Rome

I guess Rome could be described as one of the biggest cities that hold have history of the past physically on land! You can walk by foot and still have the energy to see more open historic artifacts and museums. Or you can catch the hop-on hop-off tour buses that go in two directions with eight stops each on the way to the main attractions in Rome! (How convenient is that!)

The Colosseum

My first stop is The Colosseum. This ancient monument was originally built for the use of live combat fighting for gladiators and animals for the public. Gladiators would usually be convicts, slaves, and prisoners from war. Romans from all over consisting the poor, rich, young to old, and the emperor himself also occasionally attended these massacre events.

Here's a little mystery. Only one emperor actually participated in the games; Commodus, it is a fact that he did attend the games with the Gladiators, If you've watched the movie 'Gladiators' (2000), Commodus dies inside the arena. Which some people say it did happen and the movie is partially linked with his life history. However, some say he was assassinated outside of the Arena of the Colosseum. But can anyone know what really happened? I guess it's up to you to decide which fate he took. But as a fan of the movie Gladiators, I personally think he looks more heroic as a gladiator!  :)

Here are some sites you can have a browse if your'e interested in Commodus's life.

Mount. Vesuvius & casts of civilians at Pompeii disaster
http://tourcampania.com/index.php?cPath=28
Pompeii used to be a relatively big colonised town (The city that disappeared), until it got wiped out by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius's Volcano, becoming buried under the earth until found in year 1748. The remains of the city was preserved by the molds that covered the city, and today we are able to see the exact remainders of the buildings; homes, temples, theatres, furniture, and artworks. Even casts of citizens that once lived at Pompeii that were instantaneously killed at the time can be seen when you visit The city that disappeared, Pompeii. These artifacts that were left behind from such catastrophe, is the main reason why millions of tourists visit it each day.

You can also visit Mount. Vesuvius, the only active volcano that exists in Europe. You can hike up the mountain which only takes around 30 minutes or so to the top and craters to witness the steams arising from the depths of sleeping Mount. Vesuvius.

I'm guessing for this tour around, you would need nice comfortable walking shoes and hat and some sunscreen! :)

St. Peter's Square and The Basilica

St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City is a popular tourist site in Rome. It is one of the most holiest, and largest catholic sites in the world, and tourists and catholic believers come every year to have mass with the Pope. as well as the Basilica, you can also have a look around St. Peter's Square. Located not too far from the actual Basilica. You will be able to see the over-powering history and sculptures that were built long before we were born, and see first hand the details of each work done by hand!

Make sure you have a look inside the Basilica. With marbling floor and colours of the roofs, pillars that hold the building up and marble statues resembling Mary, St. Peter and paintings of or made by famous historical people. And the tombs of past Popes that lived at The Basilica serving and living for their religion.

Venice

The great Canal and Gondola
http://thecarefreetraveler.com/top-romantic-vacations/
Venice is a small city, with islands connected to each other by bridges. Venice the city itself is part of the UNESCO world heritage, with all it's architecture and beautiful artwork.

Great Canal Tour

The first thing you would want to do once you get to Venice is the Grand Canal tour on a Gondola boat, with your Gonoliers singing a serenade and playing music for you whilst you see the beautiful canals of Venice. Sit back and enjoy the ride of being soaked in with Italy, Venice's magic!

How romantic is that?! I would love to go to Venice with my loved ones and enjoy this magical moment with them by my side! Wouldn't you??

Venice Foods

Let's not forget about food! Just like every other city Venice has their own style and traditions of dishes that could take one's breath away! Venice being located on the sea, obviously we can expect that the main cuisine made would be from its most closest resource; fish! As well as other local dishes that distinguish Venetian food from any other city!

                                                                                                                  Baccala' Mantecato

mantecato-con-patate-turchesa/
Baccala' Mantecato is probably Venice's most famous entree dish. Made from Cod fish preserved with salt then dried out. After the drying out stage it is then poached and then mixed with all sorts of ingredients to make the final product creamy and easy to spread on baguette or grilled white polenta, with nothing else to make it taste as nice as it already is!
Sarde in Saor

Translated as Sardines immersed in flavour, It is one of the most looked for dishes when in Venice. It is a delicious antipasto of sardines and anchovies mixed with onions in a sweet and sour sauce like recipe,                                                                                             added with tads of pine nuts and raisins

Bigoli in Salsa

Bigoli in Salsa is probably the main dish that is served in holiday season in Venice, in Christmas. It is an anchovy and onion based on a thick fresh pasta dish. it is considered as one of the most eaten dishes in Venice.
